The brief for this project was to design a space able to accommodate a variety of activities from worship through to theatre productions. However the main architectural challenges for the scheme were how to reconcile the two storeys of the new building with the three storey buildings on either side; how to form a link with a Victorian building which expressed continuity and difference at the same time; whilst also providing an appropriate addition to the urban square surrounding the building. One of the main features of this project is the octagonal tower constructed from locally quarried ashlar stone topped with a lead clad spire.
